    Dobell House

    Dobell House is a National Heritage Home and the Studio of Sir William Dobell, three times Archibald Prize Winner and is situated on the beautiful shores of Lake Macquarie. We will be greeted with a Morning Tea and presentation of the life of Dobell with the history of the house, then you can experience the House and Studio at your leisure. Enjoying the extensive exhibition “Dobell, his Life and Art”. View memorabilia and photos of his life as well as a 1963 radio interview.

    A half hour trip to Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery and quick stop for lunch (or sandwich pick up, depending on time).

    Lake Macquarie Art Gallery is Located on the shores of Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake, the leafy grounds include the award-winning gallery with state-of-the-art seminar facilities, a sculpture park, mosaic pathways. The collection includes works on paper, photographic and schultural works donated by many gifted artists and acquisitions, also including a number of William Dobell paintings.

    SCHEDULE Friday 6th April, 2018 –  8:00 for 8:15am SHARP  Leave Hazelhurst (Meet in Talara Rd 8:00 am bus departs 8:15 am sharp)

    11 am                 Approx arrival Dobell House

    1:00pm              Board Bus (A quick stop for lunch or pick up a sandwich to take with, depending on time, possibly Toronto Workers Club (Lunch at own expense)

    1:45pm              Approx Arrival Art Gallery of Port Macquarie.

    3:15pm              Board bus for return trip

    6:00pm              Approx Arrival Hazelhurst due to traffic

    Join John on his third very successful Walking Tour to explore the establishment of European society in Australia, the successes and trials of the people of the First Fleet, growth of the colony and have time to reflect on the dispossession of the original Australians. We will do this by exploring the evidence revealed by the streets and buildings of the Rocks. Finish with a pub lunch around 1.30pm. The afternoon will be free for you to pursue your interest in art at the S. H. Ervin Gallery at The National Trust, Observatory Hill or at the Museum of Contemporary Art by the Harbour or view the ‘Underworld’ exhibition at the Museum of Sydney in Bridge Street.

    Note: Medium level of fitness is required, as there are some stairs to negotiate. The group will be strictly limited to 15 pre-paid participants. Wear sturdy shoes, hat (or umbrella), sunscreen and carry bottled water.
